Settlement Objective

The “Keep your settlers happy” objective asks you to reach 60 satisfaction as you prepare to attract more residents. To solve the Wild West Pioneers keep settlers happy quest, provide shelter, food and water, then reveal the wishes over occupied homes and place the requested decorations within each home's range.

Nivarias reaches this objective about 12 minutes into this first episode and works through the tent wishes on screen:

Which Needs Should You Check First?

Start with the basics before spending money on decorations. The earlier resident needs objective asks you to make sure nobody is homeless, residents can buy food at the grocery store, and every resident has access to water.

Check shelter

Provide tents and check the objective no longer reports homeless residents. Empty tents alone are not proof: one player had a homeless problem with four empty tents while trying to finish the happiness objective.

Check food access

Make sure your residents can buy food at the grocery store. Decorations do not replace meals. If food is not sorted yet, see the food shop guide.

Check water coverage

Look at which homes are within the well's range. Don't assume every tent gets water; check each one, and see the well placement guide if range is the problem.

Fix any unmet basic need first, then buy decorations only for wishes you have revealed. Decorations cost money, and random ones may not match any request.

How Do You Reveal Each Home's Wish?

Watch occupied homes for an exclamation mark. Wishes appear some time after a home is constructed, so you may need to wait before there is a request to act on. Open that home's building panel and click the flashing icon to reveal its wish.

Read them house by house: one home may want a structure decoration while its neighbor wants a light source. The revealed request in the panel tells you which decoration category to use.

Tents also show these wishes. You can finish the happiness objective with tent residents alone. For the separate upgrade task, see how to upgrade a tent to a wooden hut.

What Decoration Should You Place?

Match the category named in the home's request. The decoration menu contains several categories, and a home asking for a structure can accept any nearby decoration from that category.

Revealed wishPlacement exampleWhat to check afterward
Structure decorationA scarecrow near the homeThe wish shows as fulfilled
Light sourceA lantern near the home, such as beside the roadThe home's light request is fulfilled
AnimalsA cat or horse near the requesting homeCheck that home's animal wish after placement
FurnitureFurniture placed within the home's rangeCheck the furniture request for fulfillment

Place one matching object, check the request is fulfilled, then move to the next house.

Check each home's range before committing to a spot. One player tried furniture opposite a house, then inspected the house's range when unsure whether it was close enough.

Two homes can ask for animals at the same time. In one settlement, a player selected a cat hoping it would help both houses. If you try a position between two requesting homes, inspect both wishes afterward before buying another animal.

Why Are You Still Below 60 Satisfaction?

Check the settlement happiness value after fulfilling wishes. In one player's run, happiness was 55 after the initial decorations, and the player waited for more wishes. Later, two homes requested animals before the tutorial moved on to attracting settlers.

If you are in that position, revisit occupied homes, reveal any new flashing icons, and fulfill the requests you can see. A home without a visible wish may simply need more time before a request appears. Read the panel again before buying anything.

What Happens After You Reach the Target?

The next settlement objective is to attract new settlers and welcome them. More inhabitants give you more hands to work and help the settlement develop. The later migration tutorial tells you to keep happiness above 60, with new people arriving every few hours for you to accept.

StageSatisfaction instruction
Keep your settlers happyReach 60
Ongoing arrivalsKeep happiness above 60

Keep meeting basic needs and new home wishes after finishing the objective. The tutorial warns that people will not want to come when happiness is insufficient, and that residents can start leaving if it gets too low. If migrations arrive without new residents, go to why migrations bring no new settlers.
